dc.description.abstractThe principal question addressed in this study concerns the applicability of x-ray diffractometry to determine bulk rock mineralogy and clay species in the absence of core in the Bakken Formation. For this study, samples of bit cuttings and thin sections from core obtained from the North Dakota Geological Survey were analyzed and the results compared to determine if cuttings are a viable substitute for core.
