The prevalence of obesity is on the rise. Obesity results from the interplay of many physiological systems. Although researchers seem to have developed ideas for how obesity arises, the effect of obesity on human behavior is not well studied. In order to investigate the role obesity plays on altering human behavior, I performed a literature review in search of possible connections between these two topics. In performing this literature review, my main goal of this paper was to assess how obesity may lead to changes in behavior. This paper will analyze the mechanisms causing obesity, the genetics of obesity, and common psychological effects that obesity is believed, in part, to influence.
