dc.description.abstractWeb wrinkling is a problem which plagues the web process industry. Most webs are quite thin, on the order of 4-150 μm, and become subject to lateral shear during transport either by misaligned rollers or by guide rolls. It is proven herein through analyses verified by experiments, that classical instability theory does apply to this case. The dependence of wrinkles on the available traction between the web and roller surfaces is also modeled and verified experimentally. A verified model is presented which yields the traction as a function of entrained air.
