Performance of Ultra Thin White Topping in Oklahoma
Abstract
Asphalt pavements would benefit from a low maintenance rehabilitation technique. Modern technology in the form of placement of a thin concrete overlay or ultra thin whitetopping (UTW) can be a promising solution for such type of rehabilitation. After extensive field testing in the state of Oklahoma over different types of UTWs it is found that they can be a feasible rehabilitation technique for over 10 years under heavy truck traffic. Appropriate design considerations would help assure the satisfactory performance of the overlay. Construction as per the recommended material characteristics and recommended methods is also immensely important to ensure good performance. However, certain aspects need more research and prolonged observation both in the field as well as in the laboratories to come to a definite conclusion. Such aspects are discussed at length in the report.
