Abstract

The efficiency of offsite construction, particularly volumetric modular construction, can be significantly enhanced by optimizing the production process. This study uses a case-study method to explore the application of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to identify and mitigate inefficiencies in the production line of an offsite construction factory. By analyzing the current production flow of Factory A, several inefficiencies were identified, and solutions were proposed and tested in collaboration with the factory’s management team. The proposed solutions, many of which align with lean manufacturing principles, were evaluated for effectiveness. The findings provide a framework for other volumetric modular construction manufacturers to optimize their production processes, preliminary reducing schedule time and ultimately leading to reduced costs and waste
