This dissertation is a systematic and holistic examination of the progress or lack thereof of gender equality since the opening of Vietnam's markets under Doi Moi (renovation) in Vietnam. It seeks to test the hypothesis advanced by Heyzer that high growth is closely related to poverty reduction but has no direct relationship with gender equity and human development. The framework used is Nussbaum's articulation of A. Sen's capability approach to human development.en_US
