For the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, Tunica language revitalization and ethnobotany have a symbiotic relationship wherein discussions of ethnobotanical practices are fertile ground for language development, and language resources with ethnobotanical themes increase speakers’ plant awareness. Furthermore, interest in either language or ethnobotany can be a gateway for individuals to begin learning more about the other domain. This thesis explores these relationships, particularly in connection to the community-led creation of the Tunica Ethnobotany Guidebook. Creating an Ethnobotany Guidebook in a reawakening language requires innovation, including reimagined ethnobotanical practices and neologisms for botanical terminology. The past, present, and future of Tunica language and ethnobotany converge in the Guidebook and other community settings, telling a story of vitality and possibility.
