The Brief Vulnerability Overview Tool (BVOT) is a living map of local, hazard-specific, vulnerabilities mapped by members of a weather forecast office (WFO) and can be integrated into WFO operations before, during, and after hazardous weather events. This short-contribution highlights social science observations from the BVOT research team as part of testing BVOT use in operations during the during the 14 March wildfire outbreak. Fieldnotes highlight the importance of knowledge about vulnerable people, places, and things vulnerable to a weather hazard are important for situational awareness and for clear communication, insight into BVOT use during the event, as well as insight into the innovative collaboration that took place between the OUN FIRE IWT team.
