Abstract

The life and works of the playwright, Tennessee Williams will impact the lives of readers for centuries to come. His life affected the style in which he wrote, and the characters that he wrote were closely based on some of the women in his life. Among his most famous characters are three women: Amanda for The Glass Menagerie, Blanche, from A Streetcar Named Desire, and Maggie from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The majority of the characters that Williams created, most have a tragic fate, including the women who are closely studied in the following paper. Upon a deeper study of these women one can find insight into the life and works of Tennessee Williams.
