This thesis asks whether 'Kim', as a fin de siècle novel, helped to bridge the Victorian and modern periods in British literature, and whether the novel, published at the midpoint of Kipling's career, stands as a marker of his literary development. This thesis contends that 'Kim' holds significance as both a personal and a national narrative.
