dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to examine the cost savings opportunities of energy conservation programs at universities. The energy conservation program at Oklahoma State University was used for case study. The process was devised as follows: First the evaluation of present practices has been made. Next step was to design the potential comprehensive energy conservation plan. Final and crucial step was to perform the cost-benefit analysis of proposed energy conservation program by including all the direct and external costs and benefits. Evaluation of present practices found that University does not have comprehensive energy conservation plan. The major points are lack of formal structure, support from administration and university policies that would institutionalize such program. Proposed energy conservation program was designed to at minimum addresses such inefficiencies. The cost benefit analysis showed that proposed energy conservation program has positive Net Present Value, and that the Oklahoma State University would greatly benefited, financially, socially and environmentally from actual implementation of such program.
