dc.description.abstract | This study is focused on the fields of cognitive psychology and acting. More specifically, the study focuses on the psychology of acting and how the performer's mind functions and may exist as performance occurs. The study presents a model of the acting experience that relies on a dual process of awareness. Surveys were administered to subjects to quantitatively study the experience of actors in their performance and craft. From the surveys scales were created to statistically identify relationships between awareness, craft, and creativity in regard to expertise in acting. The findings of this study revealed a relationship that exists between expertise and the awareness, craft, and creativity of the actor. This relationship supported the working model of dual awareness presented. Further investigations in this area may reveal differing depths of character development juxtaposing the novice against the expert. | |
