Purpose of the Study. The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive list of trombone and euphonium recordings in order that performers, teachers, students, composers, record collectors, and librarians might become better acquainted with the repertoire. The discography was particularly intended to make performers, teachers, and students of the trombone and euphonium aware of pertinent compositions that have and have not been recorded and also might serve toward broadening an individual's knowledge of and possible exposure to various interpretations of the trombone and euphonium repertoire.en_US
The descriptive section of the document, Part I, was designed after the fact to explain how the research was approached, conducted, and concluded; to suggest potential uses of the discography listing; and finally to recommend additions to the available body of recordings.en_US
Procedures/Conclusions. The procedure for the completion of this project began with the compilation of a list of the author's own records and of records available within local libraries in order to establish what information was to be included in the listing of recordings. Through study of this list it became obvious that specific elements were necessary for the compilation of the discography. As a result, the format of Part II was designed to include the elements pertinent to this discography. Thus, Part II includes a main listing of trombone and euphonium solo and ensemble recordings released commercially and categorical cross-reference listings of compositions. Included in these listings are the album title, the performer's or ensemble's name, other soloists or ensembles, the accompanist's name or the accompanying ensemble, the ensemble conductor's name, and the number of sides, record size, record label and number, and mono, stereo, or quadraphonic designation followed by the composer's name and the title of the composition recorded. In order to allow for verification of each listing presented in this project, the basic source from which the information was obtained was also listed.en_US
