Gender differences in the presentation of emotion dysregulation in individuals with borderline personality disorder
Abstract
It has been suggested that emotion dysregulation is a core feature of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Emotion dysregulation in BPD can include increased emotion sensitivity, heightened negative affectivity, limited regulation strategies, and maladaptive coping behaviors. To contribute to the existing research, I intend to develop a literature review examining the prevalence of BPD diagnosis, focusing on differences attributed to gender and to examine the role of gender identities on emotion sensitivity, heightened negative affectivity, regulation strategies, and maladaptive coping behaviors.
