Comparison of chicken diets in relation to slaughter weight
Abstract
Chickens are mainly fed one of two diets: grain feed, or free range. This project studies the effects of a grain fed diet with free range supplementation, to see if it would increase slaughter weights. Six chickens were divided into two groups, both fed the same amount and kind of feed. One group was kept stationary in a run, the other group was allowed to free range and forage. After five weeks, the data showed that the chickens who free-ranged gained an average of 75 grams more weight than the chickens who had only a grain diet.
