Food for thought: Native American food sovereignty
Abstract
Food for Thought is a documentary I produced about food. My goal is to highlight how American Indian nations, Tribal citizens and Indigenous activists are working to raise the nutritional status of the community. This documentary explores what food sovereignty is, how the diets of the American Indian population have changed since colonization, specific Tribal Nation initiatives that encourage nutrition health, initiatives to grow and restore traditional, sustainable foods, ways to combat food deserts in American Indian communities and American Indians who are rediscovering the rich culinary heritage of Native Americans.
