A Trip to Wonderland is a 90 minute play based on the Lewis Carol novel, the Adventures of Alice in Wonderland. Alice Liddell is presumed to be real in this story, and suffers from Lewis Carol syndrome, which symptoms include a headache so severe that it distorts vision. Alice combines her migraines with her overactive imagination, thus being able to 'see' Wonderland even when she's not asleep. After the death of her father, Alice insisted on staying in her Wonderland to cope with the loss. When her mother died, her attempts at staying in Wonderland doubled in effort. Her elder sister, Lorina, is worried that people will mistake her for insane. Lorina's worst fear is losing her sister to an asylum, especially after already losing both her parents. The Liddell family is being supported financially by Dr. Simon Scriber, who views himself as a capable and caring psychologist. In his fantasy world, the asylum is a perfect place to take Alice, but in Lorina's, it is a torture chamber. The play never shows which of their perspective is more realistic, leaving it for audience interpretation. Alice also has to deal with harsh reality once a murder has taken place and she recognizes who did it. Her Wonderland shatters once she realizes that she cannot escape reality forever.
