Scope of Report: The study of genetics at the high school level often involves only the solving of a series of hypothetical and textbook problems. The purpose of this report is to provide a collection of experiments in genetics which allow the student to work individually, taking careful notes of all his observations and to use these notes to aid in drawing his conclusions. The student is required to submit a report for each experiment which very closely resembles, in structure, the report that a research geneticist would make concerning his work. The fruit fly or vinegar fly, Drosophila melanogaster, is the organism used in these experiments. A procedure for the culturing and handling of this organism is also included in this report.
