dc.description.abstract | Scope of Study: The laboratory in high school biology has failed to achieve its goals in some instances. This study has made an attempt to determine what objectives the laboratory will achieve and what will constitute an adequate laboratory for the high school biology course. The study was divided into three phases. The first dealt with the historical development of the laboratory in educational institutions, its present use and the laboratory method compared to other teaching methods. The second phase dealt with the goals and objectives of the high school biology laboratory. The third phase attempted to determine what measures could be taken in order to gain the maximum benefit from the laboratory.
dc.description.abstract | Findings and Conclusions: In many instances, the laboratory has not been fully utilized. The laboratory should be used only when a definite need arises. The laboratory may achieve specific and general goals at the same time. Proper planning and supervision is of prime importance to the proper functioning of the laboratory. Equipment and time for teacher preparation are contributing factors to the present state of the high school biology laboratory.
