| dc.description.abstract | This informational handout presents the statistics regarding the importance of early brain health, the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACE) on the brain, and why various types of early intervention can mitigate the impact of ACEs. Early intervention services include Early Childhood Care and Education (including HeadStart and other early learning centers), home-based parenting programs (i.e., Nurse Family Partnership, SafeCare. Parents as Teachers), community based group interventions (i.e., Legacy for Children), and family treatment (i.e., Child Parent Psychotherapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-up). The handout is based on the understanding that brain health is crucial to normative development and emotional health, with the exposure to ACEs being potentially detrimental to proper growth and maturation. Since ACEs are common, the idea developed as a way to alleviate some of the adverse effects of such experiences on children and to spread knowledge of protective factors to those in the human services field who work with young children. This handout will be distributed to local providers in order to inform them of the benefits of several early intervention services. | |
