Development and Progress of Education in Jefferson County, Oklahoma
Abstract
It is undeniable that progress has been made in education during the period covered in this thesis, both in art of teaching and in the practice of administration. But we may justly inquire what measure of efficiency has been secured from the money spent and from the effort and devotion of those engaged in teaching. The aims of this thesis are to estimate progress or changes which have either advanced or hindered the educational system of Jefferson County, and to take a broad measurement of the development of education by comparing conditions which exist today with those of a decade or two ago. The work is an invoice or certain factors giving a basis for drawing conclusion. No attempt has been made to outline the history of the individual districts. The use of extraneous matter has been avoided as much as possible, but it is hoped that the most important facts have been recorded. The survey of conditions, as recorded in this work, is based largely upon apporximately fifteen years' of personal observation by the author, while working and living in Jefferson County during the period under study. However, reliable authorities have been used and quoted to substantiate important facts.
