dc.description.abstractCableSafety System (CASSª).is being tested'by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) along I- 35 in McClain County. CASSª will be compare with two other system approve by ODOT. Using C-shaped posts and tensioned cables, CASSª is designed to assist in preventing head-on collisions by capturing and redirecting errant vehicles that would otherwise traverse the median of a roadway. The system.consists of three 3/4 "x3x7 pre-stretched cables held by 4"x2"x8" gauge mild steel C-channel posts. The post spacing, however, varied with the product, the other products used approximately, 8 to 10 feet spacing, while the CASS ª was constructed with a tighter spacing of approximately 6 feet between posts. Since installation, no vehicles have passed through the barrier.
