Two Cobalt-Molybdenum-Alumina catalysts, Sphericat Nalco 474 and Nalcomo 474 were studied for hydrodesulferization of FMC oil (coal-derived liquid) in a trickle bed reactor. Experimental data were taken at 1500 psig, 2.99 liquid volume hourly space time and 7500 scf Hydrogen/bbl FMC oil for temperatures of 700F (371C), 800F (427) and 850F (454C) using Nalcomo 474 catalyst. Six experimental runs were conducted, the duration of which varied from 100 to 200 hours. An attempt was made for the preliminary assessment of carbon build-up on a catalyst as well as the effect on catalyst activity caused by the amount of H?S supplied during catalyst presulfiding.
