This study is a Q- and R-sort analysis of newsphotographs based on the methodologies used by Or. Walter J. Ward, now director of graduate studies in mass communication at Oklahoma State University, and by the late Malcolm S. Maclean Jr., pioneer in newsphotograph research, formerly from the University of Iowa. The primary objective of the study was to identify basic news values underlying newsphotograph selection by newspaper editors.
