dc.description.abstractThis study was concerned with the identification of changes in styles of American women's hats and dating these hats in a fifty year period. The purposes of this study were to describe distinguishable characteristics of American women's hats, 1900 to 1950, and to develop a procedural model to be used in classifying and cataloging historic collections. The primary objective was to develop a valid system .for use in classifying American women's hats, 1900 to 1950. The procedural model formulated for the purpose of the study was used to make recommendations for cataloging and organizing �hats in the Clothing, Textiles and Merchandising Department Costume Collection at Oklahoma State University.
