dc.description.abstractNovel heteroarotinoid compositions characterized by the formulae: ##STR1## where R is H, CH.sub.3 or C.sub.2 H.sub.5 and X is S, S O, O, NCH.sub.3, Si(CH.sub.3).sub.2, N.sup.+ (H)CH.sub.3 [Cl.sup.- ], N.sup.+ (H)CH.sub.3 [Br.sup.- ] or N.sup.+ (alkyl) CH.sub.3 [Cl.sup.- or Br.sup.-) where alkyl is CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHCH.sub.2 or C.sub.6 H.sub.5 CH.sub.2. Such compositions exhibit activity as anticancer agents.
