This study looks at the relationship between FDI, openness to international trade, and GDP in Turkey and 13 EU countries using panel data from 1980-2012. This study look at the openness of Turkey and the EU and seeks to determine if FDI has a greater relationship to GDP as a country becomes more open to international trade. This study found that openness to trade and FDI had a negative, but not statistically significant relationship to GDP. The study also found FDI has a positive relationship to GDP from 1980-1996. This relationship weakened from 1997-2012.
