Optimized Graded Concrete For Slip Formed Paving
Abstract
A study was conducted into the proportioning and gradation of concrete aggregates to reduce the paste volume of a mixture for the sole purpose of slip formed paving. Various nominal maximum aggregate sizes and different angular aggregates using five different mixture gradation proportions were evaluated with the slump test and a novel workability test for a concrete vibrator's performance called the box test. The results show the Shilstone chart was not accurate to predict the performance. Instead the individual percent retained chart was a better indicator of gradation performance in concrete
