This research project was designed to increase understanding of terrestrial toxicant bioavailability and hepatic effects of chronic exposure to landfarmed petroleum wastes, and to determine the suitability of cotton rats as bioindicator organisms. I wish to express my appreciation to my major advisor, Dr. David Janz for his guidance, friendship and time. I wish to thank Dr. Karen McBee for her advice, encouragement and editorial comments and Dr. Roman Lanno for his insight. I would also like to thank Dr. Weber for her friendship and advice. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the support and love of my husband, mother, father and brother. Finally, I would like to thank the Department of Zoology for travel funding and the EPA for funding this research.
