dc.description.abstract | Using geometry created in SOLIDWORKS, this SOLID186 model explores the nature of the stress field in the vicinity of a circular hole in a rectangular plate. It draws on the analytical solution presented by Timoshenko in Theory of Elasticity to compare with the FEA result. A cylindrical coordinate system is introduced at the center of the hole to provide direction to the normal stresses at the inside surface. The concept of a Stress Concentration Factor is introduced. | |
