With geometry created in SOLIDWORKS, this SOLID186 model maps the stresses in an internally-pressurized vessel and provides comparison with the analytical results for axial, radial, and tangential (hoop) normal stresses. A cylindrical coordinate system is introduced to clarify the direction of the various stress components. The concept of a Factor of Safety is introduced.
