Item Open Access African American fathers: Factors that motivate their commitment to their children.(2001) Carter, John Louis, Jr.; Henderson, George,The participants in the study also provided a number of suggestions that might be implemented to help increase the number of committed African American fathers in future generations.Item Open Access Followership: Leadership styles.(2000) Colangelo, Albert John.; Henderson, George,The prediction was that participants' supervisors' leadership styles would be significantly related to all dimensions of followership measured by the followership survey. As determined by factor analysis of responses to the survey, these dimensions were (1) active engagement, (2) critical, independent thinking, (3) passion, and (4) team mindedness. Results showed that supervisor's leadership style was not significantly related to followership on all four dimensions. However, it was significantly correlated to three dimensions of followership---active engagement, passion, and team mindedness---with participants who had democratic supervisors scoring significantly higher on these three dimensions than those with autocratic or laissez-faire supervisors. Analysis of covariance showed that leadership style was confounded with other variables and that trust, job satisfaction, and commitment were instead causally related to followership.Item Open Access Organizational civility: Issues, problems and solutions to creating environments of civility in the workplace.(2001) Kimmel, David Charles.; Henderson, George,Scholars have just begun to research the issue of incivility in the workplace. The research focusing on a proactive approach of creating civility is even more sparse. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine if employees view incivility as a problem. If so, what do they think their role is in developing a more civil environment? Also, what do they think the organization's responsibilities are for establishing civil environments? This study utilized focus group research techniques as a qualitative research effort. The participants were from large bureaucratic companies in a moderate-sized southwestern city.
