Effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on dysphagia in stroke patients
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the effectiveness of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on treating dysphagia in stroke patients. A literature review was done with electrical stimulation being combined with other traditional treatments to determine effectiveness. The results of the studies suggest that electrical stimulation can be beneficial in stroke patients who had an acute stroke, mild to moderate dysphagia, and who complete treatment within two months.
