Item Open Access The Electric Dipole Moment of the Tau Lepton as a Signature of CP Violation(2019-08-01) Dewald, Andrew; Kao, Chung; Abbott, Braden; Strauss, MichaelWe calculate a one-loop level electric dipole moment (EDM) of the tau lepton that arises from scalar/pseudoscalar Higgs mixing in a type II two Higgs doublet model. Numerical results at m_0 = 125 GeV give an EDM of 3.66 × 10^(-24) e cm for tanβ = 1 and 2.33 × 10^(-21)e cm for tanβ = 30. The predicted EDM is still far below the current best experimental limit of |d_τ| < 3.9 × 10^(-17) e cm; however, it can be much larger than the tau EDM of the Standard Model.Item Open Access HIGH RESOLUTION MICROSCOPY OF ANTIMONIDE HETEROSTRUCTURES AND STREPSIPTERA EYES(2019-01-25) Richert, Damien; Santos, Michael; Larson, Preston; Abbott, BradenWe study different Antimonide heterostructure resulting from a calibration step for infrared photodetector and infrared laser. Using SEM and AFM, we found a trend in the density of surface features on Antimonide heterostructures as a function of the mismatch coefficient as well as the thickness of the epilayer. The second part of this thesis uses the same tool as before but focuses on biological samples. We wanted to learn more about the eye of Strepsitera species. We used the SEM with a focused ion beam to obtain three-dimensional data of the eye. We learned that the pigments of the eyelet are large, circular and nonreflective near the surface. Deeper in the eye, those pigments are smaller, stretched and reflective.
