Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 216(7), 993-997. doi: 10.1243/09544050260174193http://hdl.handle.net/11244/25521This paper presents experimental evidence for the existence of non-Euclidean contact geometry at the tool-chip interface in the machining of aluminium alloy, which challenges conventional assumptions. The geometry of contact at the tool rake face is modelled using fractals and a dimension is computed for its description. The variation in the fractal dimension with the cutting speed is explored.en-USmachining frictional boundaryfractalstool-chip interfacealuminium alloyRe-examining the machining frictional boundary conditions using fractalsResearch Article10.1243/09544050260174193false
